Phyllodes tumors of the breast are rare and most often non-cancerous. They don't usually spread outside the breast, but they grow quickly.
Usually, these tumors are felt as a painless lump, but sometimes they can hurt. It's difficult to determine whether they're cancerous or benign from imaging tests or even a needle biopsy. Therefore, in most instances, your doctor will perform surgery to remove the entire tumor and a small portion of surrounding tissue to determine if it’s cancerous.
Our surgeons are experienced in breast-conserving surgery, which removes cancerous tissue and leaves as much healthy breast tissue as possible intact, including lumpectomy, partial mastectomy, and skin and nipple-sparing mastectomy.
